407C is a widely utilized refrigerant blend consisting of a combination of R-32, R-125, and R-134a, with proportions of 23% R-32, 25% R-125, and 52% R-134a. Chemically known as 1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane, Pentafluoroethane, and 1,1,1-Trifuoroethane, respectively.
Physical Characteristics: At standard room temperature and pressure, R407C is a non-azeotropic refrigerant mixture comprising fluorine-substituted alkanes devoid of chlorine. It exists as a colorless gas stored within steel cylinders under compression as a liquefied gas. Possessing an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) of 0, R407C stands as an environmentally favorable refrigerant, posing no harm to the atmospheric ozone layer. It is characterized by cleanliness, low toxicity, non-flammability, and excellent refrigeration efficacy.
Applications: 407C refrigerant demonstrates superior humidity tolerance and enhanced refrigeration performance, rendering it suitable for medium to low temperature refrigeration systems and non-centrifugal refrigeration setups. Predominantly employed in household air conditioning units, small to medium-sized commercial air conditioning systems (including unit air conditioning, household central air conditioning, and multi-unit air conditioning), as well as mobile air conditioning such as automotive air conditioning.
Important Considerations: While R407C serves as a primary replacement option for R22, particularly in air conditioning systems, disparities in physical and chemical properties, theoretical cycle performance, and compressor oil necessitate attention. For post-sales maintenance of refrigeration equipment initially designed for R22 refrigerant, it’s essential to adhere to protocols; R22 should typically be the only additive. Direct substitution of R407C for R22, commonly referred to as “blood exchange replacement,” is generally not feasible due to aforementioned differences. However, for refrigeration equipment originally utilizing R22, R417A can be employed as a direct replacement during maintenance or replacement procedures.
